Job Description

Codeworks, an LRS company, is partnering with a client to hire an Embedded Software Engineer for a Contract role. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to complex embedded and Linux‑based systems that support critical technology initiatives.

Our client is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer with experience in Unix/Linux kernel development, real-time operating systems, and cloud-native technologies. This role supports the development of reliable and secure systems used in regulated environments, including aerospace, defense, and advanced technology applications.

This position involves working in complex technical environments where system performance, security, and reliability are important.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Unix/Linux kernel and embedded systems software
  • Work with real-time operating systems (RTOS) to support predictable system behavior
  • Develop and maintain system-level applications using C/C++
  • Support the integration of Kubernetes-based platforms in edge or distributed environments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help define system architecture and performance requirements
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system-level issues across hardware and software components
  • Contribute to system performance, scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability
  • Support security and compliance requirements appropriate to regulated environments

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with Unix/Linux kernel development
  • Experience working with real-time operating systems (RTOS)
  • Proficiency in C programming for system-level development
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other cloud-native platforms
  • Understanding of operating system internals and low-level system design
  • Experience developing, supporting, or maintaining embedded or edge computing environments
The base range for this contract position is $60.00- $120.00 per hour, depending on experience. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all U.S. locations. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional job-related factors.
