Job Description
LRS Consulting Services is seeking a Staff Attorney to provide legal support for a state regulatory agency in Springfield, IL. This role supports internal staff by reviewing violations, preparing legal documents, assisting with administrative hearings, supporting rulemaking activities, reviewing contracts, and conducting legal research. The attorney will advise staff on legal requirements and help ensure regulatory actions comply with applicable laws and procedures.
What You Will Do
- Review violations and assist with enforcement actions in accordance with applicable statutes and regulations
- Prepare legal documents including pleadings, motions, briefs, orders, and correspondence
- Assist with preparation for and representation at administrative hearings
- Support rulemaking activities including drafting, reviewing, and analyzing proposed rules and regulatory language
- Review contracts, intergovernmental agreements, and other legal instruments
- Conduct legal research and provide written and verbal guidance to internal staff on legal requirements and procedures
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders on legal matters as needed
- Help ensure regulatory actions follow applicable laws, administrative procedures, and agency policies
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in the State of Illinois (in good standing)
- Experience with legal research, legal writing, and document preparation
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in administrative law, regulatory compliance, or government legal practice
- Familiarity with Illinois administrative procedures and rulemaking processes
- Experience preparing for or participating in administrative hearings
- Prior experience supporting a state or federal regulatory agency
- Experience reviewing and drafting contracts or intergovernmental agreements
The base range for this contract position is $170-$200 per hour.
Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
