Job Description

Boston Dynamics Spot Robotics Specialist

St. Louis, MO (Hybrid, 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote) | Contract

Position Summary

LRS Consulting Services is seeking a Boston Dynamics Spot Robotics Specialist for a contract opportunity in St. Louis, MO. You'll be embedded in an innovation team building out a robotics and applied AI program spanning autonomous robot deployment, computer vision, predictive maintenance, and grid-edge technologies. This is hands-on work. You'll program and deploy Spot robots in the field, build and validate ML models from real-world sensor data, and iterate based on what actually happens when the robot meets the infrastructure. If you want to work on cutting-edge robotics and AI that operates in the physical world, not just in a lab, this is the role.

What You Will Do

  • Program, configure, and extend autonomous behaviors for Boston Dynamics Spot, including custom missions and sensor payload integration
  • Develop and validate machine learning models for defect detection, predictive maintenance, and anomaly detection from field-collected imagery and sensor data
  • Build and refine vision-language model (VLM) and RAG-based compliance auditing pipelines
  • Collaborate on data pipelines connecting robotic sensing, fiber optic sensing, and SCADA/IEC 61850 systems for real-time monitoring
  • Conduct field trials across electric and gas infrastructure, troubleshoot hardware/software issues on-site, and iterate based on real-world performance
  • Document technical approaches and communicate findings to both technical and executive stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with Boston Dynamics Spot (Spot SDK) or other legged/mobile robotics platforms
  • Experience with computer vision, VLM, or LLM-based systems deployed in production or field settings
  • Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow)
  • Experience with edge computing and embedded deployment (NVIDIA Jetson, DGX, or similar)
  • Experience with RAG architectures, prompt engineering, and model evaluation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Third party candidates will not be considered
  • Sponsorship is not available - candidates must have permanent authorization to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience deploying robotics or autonomous inspection systems in utility, energy, or industrial infrastructure environments
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, IEC 61850, or grid-edge technologies
  • Experience with fiber optic sensing or distributed sensor networks
  • Background in predictive maintenance or asset inspection programs

The base range for this contract position is $90 - $130 per hour, depending on experience.
